YEMI ADEBOWALE: US EXPLANATION FOR LACK OF MILITARY SUPPORT MOST DISGUSTING

I was shocked listening to the U.S. Department of State spokesperson, Jen Paski justifying why the US refused to sell Cobra attack helicopters to Nigeria. The weapons are needed to strengthen our war against the terrorist Boko Haram sect.

Paski explained that the U.S. refused to sell the Cobra attack helicopters to the Nigerian armed forces early this year because it was concerned the military had no capacity to operate and maintain it. She added that there were also concerns over the protection of civilians during military operations.

This lame explanation is obviously most disgusting and most ridiculous. It is a tacit support for Boko Haram. If our military can’t operate and maintain them, they can be trained to do so in a matter of weeks.

The talk about protection of civilians during operations is bogus. This same US government has killed hundreds of civilians in drone attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and other places without thinking about human rights.

This same US government caught Osama Bin Laden alive and killed him with one of his wives. The US government has continued to sell huge arms and ammunitions to Israel to kill innocent Palestinians without thinking about human rights.

This is the same US government that has consistently expressed opposition to terrorism the world over. This same US government has now refused to sell Cobra helicopters to us to prosecute a war that is just.

A war aimed at riding the country of terrorists that have killed over 13,000 Nigerians. This is the height of hypocrisy by the American government. I have these funny feelings that the US government has been providing arms and ammunitions to Boko Haram in order to actualise their prediction that Nigeria would break up in 2015.

The kind of sophisticated equipment paraded by the terrorists is baffling. After the abduction of the Chibok girls, the US government made so much noise about helping us; but that was where it ended. Nothing concrete followed.

Nigerians are not satisfied with the scope, nature and content of the US’ support for us in our struggle against these bastards. Boko Haram threatens our territorial integrity and existence as a nation. We need equipment to deliver deadly punches. The US government has failed to assist us in this regard.

As a result, we must delete the US government from our list of friends and take steps to retaliate. The Nigerian government must be firm in this regard. American interest and companies in Nigeria should be targeted.

It is even good that they no longer buy our crude oil. Let us move against their economic interest in Nigeria. We must send a clear message to them that we are not happy with them.

The so-called human rights groups and opposition media providing half-truths and exaggerated accounts about alleged human rights violations by the Nigerian military must also be dealt with.
