JONATHAN: VOTES COUNT, WILL BE COUNTED

Before we came into office, elections in Nigeria could not be said to be credible. Knowing that political stability was tied to the inviolability of the electoral process, I made a commitment to break from the past and use the powers of the Presidency to promote the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by appointing persons universally acknowledged for the competency and capacity to run the commission.
The result has been that elections in Nigeria under my watch have been credible and transparent as has been attested to by local and international observers. From Anambra to Edo to Ondo to Ekiti to Osun to Niger it has been a season of one man one vote, one woman one vote and one youth one vote.
In Nigeria, power flows from the ballot and we have all achieved this together. I therefore call on all Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Card and head to the polls with the full awareness that under a Jonathan presidency, votes count and will be counted.
